At our house in California, we had a Meyer Lemon tree in the back yard that was so prolific we were overwhelmed with fruit. Here in Texas, it freezes occasionally, meaning citrus has to be planted in pots and brought inside when freezing temperatures loom. Despite the challenges, I’ve been wanting to bring Meyer Lemons back into our lives, so, a few weeks ago, we got a little lemon tree, a Loring Peach, some lavender, and some Silverado sage. So far, everything’s still alive (not chomped by deer), and the lemon is happy enough to start blooming — Meyer lemons can set fruit all year and they are self-pollinating. Every day I go out and watch the blossoms-to-be growing and turning pink.
